📝 Is It Weird to Watch Everything with Subtitles?
Short answer: it's becoming the default.
Not weird at all. Subtitle use has exploded in recent years.
A 2022 study found that 80% of 18-25 year olds use subtitles "most or all of the time." This isn't a hearing issue — it's a comprehension preference.
Modern TV has quiet dialogue, loud sound effects, and mumbly actors. Subtitles fix all of that. They also help with accents, fast dialogue, and watching at low volume.
Streaming services have made subtitles effortless to toggle. What was once associated with hearing difficulty is now just... how people watch TV. Welcome to the future.
